We know perimeter of a rectangle is $2($ length $+$ width$)$
Let the width be $x$, so length will be $x+4$
As per given problem,
$2(4+x+x)=16$
$\Rightarrow 2(4+2x)=16$
$\Rightarrow 4+2x=8$
$\Rightarrow 2x=4$
$\Rightarrow x=2$
So length is $4+2=6$
width is $2$
Area will be $=$ length $\times$ width
$=6\times 2=12$
