Question

The length of a rectangle is 5 cm more then its breath . If the length is decreased by 3 cm and breath decreased by 2 cm then area of the new rectangle is same as the area of the original rectangle. Find the dimensions of the original rectangle

Open in App
Solution

Let The Length = x And breadth = x-5

Original area = x(x-5) = x^2 - 5x

New length = x-3

new breadth = x-5+2 = x-3

New Area = (x-3)(x-3)
=x^2-6x+9

Area of the new rectangle is same as the area of the original rectangle so

x^2-6x+9= x^2-5x

-6x+9 = -5x

x = 9

Length of original rectangle =9cm And
breadth of original rectangle = 4cm.
