Let the original length =x and original breadth =y

Original area =xy

When the length of a rectangle is halved, while its breadth is tripled.

Then, New length =x2

New breadth =3y

New area =(x2)(3y)=32xy

Change in area =32xyxy

=xy2

Therefore, percentage increase =xy2xy × 100 %

=50 %
