Question

The length of a rectangle is twice the breadth. If its perimeter is 60 metres, then find its length.

Open in App
Solution

First we have to make our mathematical sentence from the data provided to figure the width which we will call X. We will use X for width (breath) and use 2X for length since length is twice the length of width. We also know there is 2 lengths and 2 widths to equal the perimeter.

Our sentence will be as follow: 2(2X)+2(X)=60m. Lets start working the sentence to find X.

2(2X)+2(X)=60

4X+2X=60

6X=60 now we divide each side by 6.

6X6=606

X=10
Length=20 m
