Question

The length of a rectangular garden is 2 feet longer than 3 times its width. If the perimeter of the garden is 100 feet, find the length of the garden.

Solution

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l+b)
100= 2(l+b)
1002=(l+b)
(l+b)=50
Here we take the width b as x, then as per the given information we get l=3x+2
By putting the values of l and b we get the equation as,
50=3x+2+x
50=4x+2
4x=48
x=12
And here we know that l=3x+2
l=12×3+2
l=38 feet.
