The length of a string between a kite and a point on the ground is 90m if the string makes an angle θ with the ground level such that tanθ=158, how high is the kite?Assume that there is no slack in the string.

tanθ=158=BCAB=hAB

h=ABtanθ ______ (1)

By Pythagoras Theorem,
902=h2+AB2

=AB2tan2θ+AB2

AB2(1+tan2θ)=902

AB2=9021+tan2θ=9021+15282=902×64289

AB=902×64289=90×817=42.35m

AB=42.35m

h=ABtanθ=42.35×158=90×817×158

=90×1517=79.42m

Hence height of the kite =79.42m
