Question

The length of an aluminum strip is 40cm. If the lengths in cm are measured in natural numbers, write the measurements of all the possible rectangular frames which can be made out of it. (For example, a rectangular frame with 15cm length and 5cm can be made from this strip. )

Solution

The total length of the aluminum strip = 40cm.

“If we are preparing a rectangular frame from this aluminum strip then the perimeter of the rectangular frame will be equal to the total length of the aluminum strip”.

The perimeter of the rectangular frame = 40cm.

l+b=40cm

l+b=20cm

The length and breadth of the rectangular frame will be all integral values whose sum is 20.

So, the possible measurements can be -

(1cm,19cm),2cm,18cm,3cm,17cm,(4cm,16cm),(5cm,15cm)(6cm,14cm),(7cm,13cm),(8cm,12cm),(9cm,11cm),(10cm,10cm)

Hence, above are the possible measurements that can be used to prepare the rectangular frame.
