Intercalary meristems are present just above or just below nodes, and are involved in the increases of the internodal length. Hence, it is this mersitem that causes the variablity in the length of internode in the culm of sugercane. The size of leaf lamin has no relation with the internodal length. Shoot apical meristem only reslut in the increase in the length of the shoot at the tip. The position of axillary buds again have nothing to so with internodal length.
