Width of rectangle $= x$
Perimeter $= 2 (l + b)$
$\Rightarrow 2 (x + x) = 54$
$\Rightarrow 2 (2 x) = 54$
$\Rightarrow 4 x = 54$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{54}{4}$
$= 13.5 c m .$
Hence, the answer is $13.5 c m .$
