The lengths of two ropes are in the ratio 7:5. Find the length of Shorter rope, if the longer one is 9.8m.

Step : Calculate the length of shorter rope.
Given, ratio of lengths of two rope = 7:5
And longer rope = 9.8m
Let the length of shorter rope is x m.
Then,the ratio of length of longer rope to shorter rope = x:9.8
According to the given condition,
x:9.8 = 7:5
x×5 = 7×9.8
(Product of extremes = Product of means)
x = 68.65
x = 13.72m
Hence, the length of the shorter rope is 13.72 m.
