Question

The magnification of the convex mirror is always?

Open in App
Solution

Convex mirror:

  1. Convex mirrors are curved mirrors with a reflecting surface that bulges out towards the light source.
  2. This protruding surface reflects light in all directions and is not utilized to concentrate light.
  3. Since the focal point (F) and the centre of curvature (2F) are hypothetical spots in the mirror that cannot be reached, these mirrors generate a virtual picture.
  4. As a result, because the picture is within the mirror, it cannot be projected on a screen.
  5. From a distance, the image seems smaller than the thing but grows larger as the object approaches the mirror.

Magnification of Convex mirror:

  1. Magnification is the process of making an item look larger than it is, or making a distant object appear closer than it is.
  2. The magnification formula is:
    M=HiHo=-DiDo
    Where, M is the magnification
Hi is the height of the image
Ho is the height of the object
Diis the distance from the lens to the in-focus projected image
Do is the distance from the object to the lens
  3. The negative (-) sign represents the fact that the image is inverted
  4. A convex mirror always creates a virtual image that is diminished.
  5. So, according to the equation, the magnification produced by a convex mirror is always less than one.
