Question

What is the magnification of concave mirror?

Open in App
Solution

Concave mirror:

  1. The reflecting surface of a concave mirror is bent inward and away from the light source.
  2. Concave mirrors focus light inward to a single focal point.
  3. In contrast to convex mirrors, the image generated by a concave mirror changes based on the distance between the item and the mirror.

Magnification of Convex mirror:

  1. Magnification is the process of making an item look larger than it is, or making a distant object appear closer than it is.
  2. The magnification formula is:
    M=HiHo=-DiDo
    Where, M is the magnification
    Hi is the height of the image
    Ho is the height of the object
    Diis the distance from the lens to the in-focus projected image
    Do is the distance from the object to the lens
  3. The negative (-) sign represents the fact that the image is inverted

When the object's distance is less than the focal length in a concave mirror, the magnification is more than one.

When the object's distance exceeds the focal length, the magnification is less than one.
