Question

The magnitude of the resultant of two vectors of equal magnitude is equal to the magnitude of either vector. What is the angle between the two vectors?

Open in App
Solution

Given:
|A|=|B|=|R|

The resultant of two vectors is given by

R2=A2+B2+2ABcosθ ........(1)

It is given that R=A=B

Putting these values in eqn. (1), we have

A2=A2+A2+2A2cosθ

cosθ=12

θ=120

Hence, the correct choice is (C).
