The chipko movement which was started in Reni village in Garhwal in Uttarakhand. The main aim was to protect the trees by hugging them and not allowing cutting of these trees. This movement was also called Chipko Andolan. The Chipko movement quickly spread across communities and media, and forced the government, to whom the forest belongs, to rethink their priorities in the name of forest produce. Due to the participation of local people, it led to the efficient management of forests.
