The main function of fimbriae of the fallopian tube in females is to
help in the collection of the ovum after ovulation
The fimbriae of the fallopian tube are generally slightly away from the ovary. During ovulation, the hormones produced, cause the blood vessels in the fimbriae to swell and this causes the fimbriae to come in used to come in contact with the ovary and to collect the ovum for transportation through the fallopian tube to the uterus.
