Solution

Small intestine:

  1. It is a highly coiled organ with three distinct regions named duodenum, jejunum, and ileum respectively, and is lined with micro finger-like structures on the inner side called villi.
  2. The chyme moves into the small intestine from the stomach for the final stage of digestion.
  3. Within the small intestine, intestinal juice (succus entericus) from the wall of the small intestine, bile juice from the liver, and pancreatic juice from the pancreas are secreted which breaks down the nutrients further.
  4. Bile juice emulsified the fats.
  5. Enzymes present in intestinal juice and pancreatic juice digest the food completely.
  6. Once the breakdown is done, the simpler nutrients are absorbed by the villi into the blood allowing blood to take it to the tissues.
