Solution

Carolus Linnaeus proposed a two-kingdom classification in which he divided all the organisms into plants and animals. There was no distinction between the eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Bacteria (prokaryotes) and higher plants (eukaryotic) were both placed under the plant kingdom. In the two-kingdom classification, the plants included photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic species. Fungi, which feed on dead organic matter, were placed under photosynthetic plants. Unicellular and multicellular organisms were both placed in plant and animal kingdom. Certain organisms did not fall into either category (Euglena). Euglena shows mixotrophic nutrition (holophytic and saprophytic mode of nutrition).
