Solution

The correct option is B
Like alkanes and alkenes, alkynes are also immiscible in water and do not react with water. However when one molecule of water adds to an alkyne is warmed with HgSO4 and dil. H2SO4 at 333 K it forms a carbonyl compound.
The addition of H2O to the alkynes follows Markovnikov's rule.
Markovnikov's rule : Negative part of the addendum (adding molecule) gets attached to that doubly bonded C which posses lesser number of hydrogen atoms.
In the given compound the carboxylic group is attached to the alkyne carbon, it is an electron withdrawing group so it will destabilise the carbocation formed. So the anti-markovnikov's product is the major product.
The enol form undergoes tautomerism to give Keto form. The major product formed is 3-oxopropanoic acid.
