Carbon dioxide is transported in three different ways from tissue to lungs-
  • As dissolved in blood
  • As carbaminohemoglobin
  • By forming bicarbonate and hydrogen ions
Most of the carbon dioxide ( 70 %) is transported from tissue to lungs as bicarbonates. 2025 % of carbon dioxide is transported as carbamino-haemoglobin attached to haemoglobin.
