The man made allotrope of Carbon was developed by the scientists to pay respect to astronomical science but ultimately it ended up in some other application field. Could you guess?
As material for stealth technology
Buckminster fullerene although was developed for astronomy and love for Carbon chemistry but it ended up in defence research lab. The allotrope is used for new generation stealth fighter aircraft. The use of C60 over the airframe of these fighter aircraft makes them invisible to radar. The use of this material is now extended to naval warships as well.
