After the first discount of $10 %$ on ₹1600,

Discount $= 10 %$ of ₹ 1600

$= \frac{10}{100} \times 1600 = ₹ 160$

Price of watch after 1st discount = ₹1600 - ₹160 = ₹1440

As the customer pays ₹1224 after the second discount, the second discount amounts to:

₹1440 - ₹1224 = ₹216
