Question

The marked price of an electronic device is ₹9200 and the sales tax levied on it is 8% .A customer asks trader to give this device for 9000 or less as he did not had enough amount ..the shopkeeper charged ₹8856 only including sales tax .Find the discount given by the shopkeeper.

marked price of electronic device=Rs 9200............................................(given).
rate of sale tax= 8%.
since customer want price to be reduced the shopkeeper reduced amount including sale tax to= Rs 8856...................(given).

Let the cost price after reduction= x
now the sale tax of the cost price after reduction(x*8/100) need to be added to cost price after reduction,
and their sum should be 8856 i.e x+x*8/100=8856
Therefore/.........
x(1+8/100)=8856.
on solving ,we get x =8200.
the discount given by keeper= 9200-8200=1000.
