Given that the marks of $15$ students in an examination are

$25,19,17,24,23,29,31,40,19,20,22,26,17,35,21$

first of all arrange the marks in ascending order

$17,17,19,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,29,31,35,40$

Here observe that no of students is odd i.e. $n=15$

So median is $\frac{n+1}{2}th$ term i.e. middle term

median $=\frac{n+1}{2}th$ term

$=\frac{15+1}{2}th$ term

$=\frac{16}{2}th$ term

$=8^{th}$ term

median $=23$

$\therefore$ median score of student marks $=23$
