Solution

Step 1, Given data

Mass of the earth = 6×1024kg

Distance between the earth and sun = 1.5×1011m

Gravitational force = 3.5×1022N

Step 2, Finding the mass of sun

The gravitational force between the Sun and the Earth can be found using the formula,
F=GMeMsR2
where Me and Ms are the masses of the Earth and the Sun, respectively.

Now,

Putting all the values in the formula

We get,
3.5×1022=(6.7×1011)(6×1024)×Ms(1.5×1011)2

Or, it can be written as

Ms=(3.5×1022)×(1.5×1011)2(6.7×1011)×(6×1024)=1.96×1030kg

Hence the mass of the sun is 1.96×1030kg
