Question

The mass on the surface of earth is 100 kg. Does the weight on the surface of moon increase or decrease? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given

Mass of body on earth's Surface = 100 kg

Step 2: Solution

  1. The weight on the surface of the moon decreases as the weight on the Moon will be 16of the weight on the earth's surface. Because the moon has a weak gravitational impact.
  2. Weight on Moon = Mass of Earth ×16=100×16=16.7kg
  3. As the weight on Moon is 116.7kg which is lesser than the Mass of Earth.

Hence, it is clear that weight decreases on the surface of the moon as compared to Earth.
