Given, mean is $7$ .
Therefore, mean $= \frac{3 + a + 2 + 8 + 12 + 2 a - 1 + 6}{6}$
$\Rightarrow 7 = \frac{30 + 3 a}{6}$
$\Rightarrow 42 = 30 + 3 a$
$\Rightarrow 3 a = 12$
$\Rightarrow a = 4$
