Mean of 11 numbers = 47
Sum of 11 numbers = 11 $\times$ 47 = 517
If one number is added, then the mean is increased by 2.
New mean = 47 + 2 = 49
Sum of 12 numbers = 12 $\times$ 49 = 588
∴ New number = $588 - 517 = 71$
