Let the numbers be x1,x2,x3,x4 and x5.
Given, mean of the five numbers = 30
x1+x2+x3+x4+x55=30
x1+x2+x3+x4+x5=150
x1+x2+x3+x4=150x5
On dividing both sides by 4, we get,
x1+x2+x3+x45=150x54(i)
Given, mean of the four numbers = 28
150x54=28 [from Eq. (i)]
150x5=112
x5=150112
x5=38
Hence, the excluded number is 38.
