Solution

The correct option is A

a=3, b=4

Explanation for the correct option:

Step 1: Find the relation between a and b.

Since, it is given that the mean of 6 observations is 6 and the observations area,b,8,5,10.

Therefore,

a+b+8+5+105=6a+b+8+5+10=30a+b=7a=7-b...1

Also, it is given that the variance of 6 observations is 6.80.

a-62+b-62+8-62+5-62+10-625=6.8a-62+b-62+22+-12+42=34a-62+b-62+4+1+16=34a-62+b-62=13...2

Step 2: Find the values of a and b.

From equation 1 and equation 2.

(7-b-6)2+b-62=13(1-b)2+b-62=13b2+1-2b+b2+36-12b=132b2-14b+37=132b2-14b+24=0b=14±142-4(2)(24)2(2)b=14±196-1924b=14±44b=14±24b=3,4

For b=3,

a=7-3a=4

For b=4,

a=7-4a=3

Therefore, the values of a and b are a=3,b=4 or a=4,b=3.

Hence, option A is the correct option.
