Question

The measured resistance of a conductance cell was 100 Ω. (MKCl= 74.5 gmol1 and cell constant =1.25 cm1). If the specific conductance in ohm1cm1 is 125×10x, then what is the value of x?

Solution

The expression for specific conductance κ is:

κ=laR.
Here R is the resistance and la is the cell constant.
Substitute values in the above expression.
κ=1.25 cm1100ohms=0.0125=125×104 ohm1cm1.

So, the value of x=4.
