Solution

The correct option is C female gametophyte
The megaspore mother cell of ovule divides by meiosis and produces four megaspores. Out of the four megaspores, three degenerate and the remaining one megaspore divides by mitosis to produce the female gametophyte.

The zygote is formed as a result of the fusion of the haploid male and female gametes. It divides continuously to form a multicellular embryo which later develops into the plant.

The needle-like leaf of the gymnosperms are formed from the cells of the sporophyte by mitosis. It helps in reducing the loss of water through transpiration by reducing the surface area that is exposed to the environment.

The pollen grain is formed by the mitotic division of the microspore. The pollen grains represent the reduced, multicellular male gametophyte.
