The method used to separate husk from grains

Open in App
Solution

Different separation techniques are present depending on the property of the substances to be separated, simpler techniques involve are:

Handpicking

  • This technique usually applied to mixtures which are less in quantity and can be differentiated using colour, size and shape
  • If we take a mixture of rice and stones, they can easily be separated by picking by hand

Sieving

  • This technique uses to separate the components which are different in size
  • The component which is larger in size will remain above the sieve and component which is smaller in size will pass through the sieve
  • Flour containing impurities can be separated using this technique

Winnowing

  • The mixture containing components can be separated by blowing air
  • A person drop the mixture from the height by shaking the plate containing the mixture by standing on an open ground
  • The component which is lighter, taken away by the wind and fall away from the person who drops the mixture
  • The component which is heavier will fall near to the person who drops the mixture

Thus, to separate husk from grains winnowwing is used, where husk will taken away by the wind and grain will fall near to the person.
