The microspore tetrad of angiosperm at the time of formation, are surrounded by a callose wall. Breakdown of this wall is brought about by the enzyme callase synthesized by the:
Tapetum, the innermost wall of the anther, secretes callase enzyme which dissolves callose. Callose walls cover the four microspores of pollen tetrad and keep them together. Hence breaking of this wall separates microspores or pollens of a tetrad and to mature independently to form male gametes.
The middle layer and endothecium are the wall layers present exterior to tapetum. Microspore mother cells are diploid cells that undergo meiosis to form the microspore tetrad.
