The minute hand of a clock is 14 cm long. find the displacement and distance covered by it from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Given,
Length of the hand of the clock = 14 cm
We know,
Displacement is the shortest distance from the initial position to the final position.
The minute hand will be just at the opposite side in 11.30 am from the 11 am
So,
Displacement =2 x radius = 2×14 = 28 cm
Now,
Distance traveled is half of the circumference of the clock.
Distance = πr = 227×14=44 cm
Hence the total distance traveled is 44 cm.
