Question

The molar solubility of Zn(OH)2 in 0.1 M NaOH solution is x×1018M. The value of x is .......(Nearest integer)
(Given: The solubility product of Zn(OH)2 is 2×1020)

Solution

Zn(OH)2 is dissolved in 0.1 M of NaOH

Zn(OH)2(s)Zn+2(aq)+2OH(aq)
S(0.1+2S)

Zn(OH)2 is less soluble, so 2S is negligible compared to 0.1.
(0.1+2S)0.1

Ksp=S(0.1)2

2×1020=S×102

S=2×1018

x×1018=2×1018

Thus, x=2.
