Question

The molarity of Cl ion in a 100 mL aqueous solution which has 2 % (wv) NaCl, 4 % (wv) CaCl2 and 6 % (wv) NH4Cl will be:

Solution

The correct option is D 2.181 M
100 mL solution contains 2 g NaCl, 4 g CaCl2 and 6 g NH4Cl
Moles of NaCl=258.5=0.034
Moles of Cl from NaCl=0.034 mol.......(i)
Moles of CaCl2=4111=0.036 mol
Moles of  Cl from CaCl2=2×0.036=0.072 mol.......(ii)
Moles of  NH4Cl=653.5=0.112 mol
 Moles of  Cl from NH4Cl=0.112 mol.......(iii)
Molarity=Moles of ClVolume in L=0.034+0.072+0.1120.1

Molarity=2.18 M
