Solution

  1. The organic compounds consisting of Carbon (C) and Hydrogen (H) atoms are known as hydrocarbons.
  2. Hydrocarbons are of two types depending on the kind of bonds formed between Carbon-Carbon atoms saturated hydrocarbons and unsaturated hydrocarbons.
  3. The organic compounds containing Carbon atoms having triple or double bonds between two Carbon atoms are called unsaturated hydrocarbons.
  4. Alkenes contain double bonds between the Carbon atoms so it is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.
  5. The molecules of the alkene family are represented by the general formula (CnH2n).
  6. In the general formula of alkenes, (2n) represents the number of Hydrogen atoms and (n) represents the number of Carbon atoms.
  7. The molecular formula of alkene is Butene (C4H8) when the value of (n) is 4 and if there are eight Hydrogen atoms in it.
