Let the MI about an axis passing through O and to the plane of the square plate ABCD is IO
The axes designated as 3 and 4 are mutually perpendicular.
Applying perpendicular axis theorem,
IO=I3+I4
But axes 3 and 4 are equivalent by symmetry.
I3=I4
The axes designated as I and 2 are mutually perpendicular.
Applying perpendicular axis theorem,
IO=I1+I2
But axes 1 and 2 are equivalent by symmetry.
I1=I2
Since IO=I1+I2=I3+I4
IO=2I1=2I2=2I3=2I4
IO=I1+I2=I3+I4=I1+I3
