Let A's income be $= 4 x$

A's expenses, therefore $= 4 x - 50$

Let B's income be $= 5 x$

B's expenses, therefore $= 5 x - 50$

We know that the ratio of their expenses $= 7 : 9$
Hence, $(4 x - 50) : (5 x - 50) = 7 : 9$
(Product of Extremes =Product of means)

$36 x - 450 = 35 x - 350$

Therefore, $x = 100$ .

A's income $= 4 x = 400$ and B's income $= 5 x = 500.$
