The monthly incomes of two persons are in the ratio of 4:5 and their monthly expenditures are in the ratio of 7:9. If each saves Rs. 50 a month, then what are their monthly incomes?

Let A's income be =4x

A's expenses, therefore =4x50

Let B's income be =5x

B's expenses, therefore =5x50

We know that the ratio of their expenses =7:9

Hence, (4x50):(5x50)=7:9

(Product of Extremes =Product of means)

36x450=35x350

Therefore, x=100.

A's income =4x=400 and B's income =5x=500.
