Finding the ratio of saving to salary :

Given,
$\text{Monthly salary}=\text{Rs.}12,000$
$\text{Monthly expenditure}=\text{Rs.}8,500$.
$\text{Monthly saving}=\text{Monthly salary}-\text{Monthly expenditure}$
$=\text{Rs}12000–\text{Rs}8500$
$=\text{Rs}3500$
Therefore, the ratio of savings to salary $=$ savings of the person
$\text{salary}=\frac{3500}{12000}=\frac{35}{120}$
Now, above ratio can be converted to its simplest form by dividing numerator and denominator by $5$, we get
$\frac{35÷5}{120÷5}=\frac{7}{24}=7:24$
Therefore, the ratio of savings to salary is $7:24$.
