Solution

The correct option is A Nonsensory supporting cells
Neuroglial cells are specialised cells found in the brain and spinal cord supporting the neurons and their fibres. About 50% of all brain cells are neuroglial cells. They are non-sensory and are two types: Macroglia and microglia.
Macroglia are formed from ectoderm of the embryo and are of two types:
1. Astrocytes: These cells are star-shaped and give off the number of processes. They are thought to separate and provide mechanical support to the neurons. They play a role in the maintenance of blood-brain barrier.
2. Oligodendrocytes: They form the myelin sheath around the axons that lie with the central nervous system.
Microglial cells are formed from mesoderm of the embryo. They are derived from monocytes that invade the brain during fetal life. They engulf and destroy microbes and cellular debris.
Thus, the correct answer is option A.
