Autochory means dispersal is attained using the plant's own means. It is also referred to as self-dispersal. Seeds of legumes are produced in pods and once the seeds mature the pods dry down. The drying of pods makes them shrink and the tension caused by shrinking around the dried seeds causes the pod to violently snap and break open from the parent plant.
