The ion with lower oxidation states gets "ous" suffix and the ion with higher oxidation states gets “ic” suffix.
If the valency is 1, the oxide formed is cuprous oxide (Cu₂O) and when the valency is 2, the oxide is Cupric oxide (CuO)
Therefore the name of higher oxide of copper is Cupric oxide.
