Solution

Chemical reaction

  • A chemical equation represents a chemical reaction.
  • A chemical equation is the representation of a chemical reaction using symbols and formulae of the substances.

(i)

Reaction of sulfur with oxygen

  • The reaction is as follows:-
  • Ss+O2(g)ā†’SO2gSulphurdioxide
  • So, the formation of sulfur dioxide gas takes place when sulfur reacts with oxygen.

(ii)

Oxides of nonmetal

  • When non-metallic oxides mix with water, it forms an oxyacid.
  • The reaction is as follows:-
  • H2O(l)+SO2gā†’H2SO3aqsulphurousacid
  • So, oxides of non-metals are acidic in nature.
