Solution

The correct option is A 2
Glycolysisis an oxygen independent metabolic process that converts glucose into pyruvate.
The steps invovled in glycolysis reaction is separated into two phases - The preparatory phase and the pay-off phase.
The first five steps of the glycolysis reaction is known as the preparatory phase. A total of 2 ATP molecules are consumed during the preparatory phase.
The remianing steps of glycolysis are known as the pay-off phase. This phase is characterized by gain of the energy-rich molecules ATP and NADH.
A total of 4 ATP and 2 NADH are obtained at the end of this phase of glycolysis.
Therefore at the end of glycolysis, a net sum of 2 ATP molecules are obtained.
