Question

The normalised electric field radiation pattern of an antenna is given as
f(θ)=cos4θ; 0θπ2, 0ϕ2π and zero else where.
then the directivity of the antenna is

Open in App
Solution

The power pattern of the antenna is,
P(θ)=|F(θ)|2=cos8θ
∵ The maximum value of P(θ) is 1, the directivity can be written as
D=4π2πϕ=0π/2θ=0cos8θsinθdθdϕ
Substituting,
cosθ=tsinθdθ=dt
We get, D=4π2π10t8dt=4π2π×(t99)90
or D = 18
∴ D(dB) = 10 log18 = 12.55 dB
