Sporangium is the reproductive structure on the underside of the frond. Each sporangium is a capsule that contains spores. Spore is a single cell. Spores are produced in capsules called sporangia. Sporangia are aggregated into clusters called sori. When mature, the spores are released from the sporangia. Once released, the spores germinate readily on contact with damp soil. In fern, the number of spores per sporangium are fixed in every species and 64 is the maximum number of spores in sporangium.
