Let the number of students was $x$ for last year,
Percentage increase in number of students = $7 %$
$I n c r e a s e i n s t u d e n t s = \frac{7}{100} x = \frac{7 x}{100}$
$P r e s e n t s t r e n g t h o f s t u d e n t s = x + \frac{7 x}{100} = \frac{107 x}{100}$
But given present strength is $15, 194$
$\frac{107 x}{100} = 15, 194 x = \frac{100 \times 15, 194}{107} x = 14, 200$
Therefore , the strength of last year was $14, 200$ .
