Solution

Asexual reproduction in lower organisms:

The reasons behind lower organisms preferring asexual reproduction are as follows:-

● They have a simple body structure which favours asexual reproduction.

● Through the process of mitosis these organisms can produce a large number of progeny without complex processes.

● Reproduction is faster and a large number of offspring are produced helping in the survival of the species in harsh environmental conditions. The progeny formed are all clones and the only possibility of genetic variation is through mutations that may occur during DNA replication.

Sexual reproduction in higher organisms:

The reasons behind higher organisms preferring sexual reproduction are as follows:-

● The higher plants and higher animals have complex structural organisation with specialised reproductive organs.

● It results in the formation of genetically variable offspring which is not seen in asexual reproduction.

● The event of recombination during meiosis drives evolution. This results in accumulation of desirable traits and survival of the fittest.
