The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than the denominator. If the numerator is decreased by 2 and denominator is increased by 1, then the denominator is eight times the numerator. The fraction is also written as m14. What is the value of m?

Let the numerator be x & denominator be y

according to question
CASE 1 :
x=y4
x=y4..............(1)

CASE 2 :
8(x2)=y+1

8xy=17...(2)

from (1)

8(y4)y=17

8y32y=17

7y=49

y=7

from (1)
x=y43

thus
Fraction=xy=37

according to question fraction is of the formm14

37×22=614m14

m=6
